Hard times for our kids in Ghana.
Nineteen-month-old Donald has been totally abandoned by his mother. He was found
sick and neglected. Two-year-old Melbourne's father is in prison and his mother had just recently abandoned him, leaving him and his two siblings on their own.
One year old Twinabu Kodua's father has no money and so Twinabu has been left with
John. John has been paying a nanny to care for Donald and Twinabu but it is a temporary
situation at best.
And Melbourne and his siblings need rescuing as soon as possible. We are not even
sure what their exact situation may be, but it is obviously not good.
For some time, John has wanted to set up what he calls a Nanny House where our
children and other kids can stay, where they can be fed and sheltered during the
day or overnight if they have no homes to go to. John even owns a house that he is
ready to donate to the cause, though it needs to be finished. It needs a roof and some
other things to make it livable.
It seems the time is right to start working toward that goal. The children are in
danger and desperate need. The foundation is there. We have the house, dedicated
people, and children who need it and need it now, not sometime in the future. So, we
have decided that this is our next, necessary step to further the work in Ghana.
But right now, we have to deal with the immediate problem of Melbourne. We cannot
leave him homeless and on the street at two years of age. So that is the emergency we face.
