Anabel
Anabel is a little girl in Ghana who was abandoned by her mother when she was four
years old. She was brought to our friend John who arranged for her to stay at a
childcare center and we have been helping to provide for her care since that time.
She is now seven years old and attending school.
Being a child is hard enough for anyone and for an orphan living in an institution
it is even harder. We are aware that we cannot replace the love and companionship
that a normal child enjoys when living with their family but at least we can make
certain that she has a place to stay, food, clothing and the other material things
everyone needs. And we are determined that she will get the best education possible
under the circumstances so that she is prepared for the world when she is old
enough to go out on her own.
We have a small group of children and some adults in Ghana who are a part of our
community and we do the best we can for all of them but when there is not enough to
go around Anabel always comes first. Most of the others have at least one parent
who can watch over them, whether they are sick or hungry or homeless, but Anabel
has no one. But she will always have us.
Right now, Anabel's life has settled into a safe routine of school at day and nights
at the shelter. She has no major health issues or anything that would demand
immediate attention. Of course, problems always come up in everyone's life and
Anabel's situation is always precarious in many ways for obvious reasons, but right
now she is getting along. So that is a good thing.
