We have a sudden emergency among our friends in Ghana. John, who is the very
foundation of all of the work to help others there, suddenly disappeared from the
internet on Monday afternoon. We heard nothing from him until this morning when he
sent us a message from a hospital. He had collapsed on the street and remembered
nothing until he woke in a hospital bed. He had had a sudden incident related to
his continuing problems with passing blood. His first message was that he was dying
but they gave him an emergency operation and he is now much better. He remains very
weak.
John has had this problem for years and has actually had several operations for it.
Medication combined with the operations have managed to keep him going but the
problem continues to flare back up occasionally. We do not yet know all of the
details of what happened this week but this time it was so severe that it almost
killed him with no warning.
For now the problem is paying his bill. The hospital did the operation and saved
his life. They said that he can be released when he pays his bill. The bill is
relatively small by American standards, about $200, but $200 might as well be two
million if you don't have it. It is a very dangerous situation. He will not be
released until he pays the bill and every day the expenses of staying there just
keep being added to the bill. Of course they will not allow that to continue
forever without taking action.
We are asking for emergency donations to pay John's bill so that he can recover at
home. Even small amounts toward his expenses would help greatly at this time.
