John's Church / Shelter Project

John needs to have a place where the children and elders he is working with can

come together, to stay and be safe. This has been one of our most serious problems.

He does what he can for the people to come to him asking him for help but then he

has to send them away again because he simply has no place for them to stay. As a

result they get in trouble or they scatter all over Ghana scrambling to stay alive.

A new project is to build John a church, a public shelter where the people can

gather, meet and be safe.

John was given property in his home village and through great effort and sacrifice

he has managed to put up most of the foundation, framework, and walls of the church

he is hoping to build. It is almost finished. It needs only the plywood for the

roof and then the zinc siding to cover it.

This is a tremendous accomplishment for John. All of the funds for construction of

his church has been gathered through his own efforts, not from the P9 members or

organization. He has traveled all over Ghana, often at personal risk from violence

and his own frail health, to raise funds for his church. This is his own project,

but since it will be of such great advantage to the children of P9 we have decided

to ask for donations so that he can finish it.

John's dream is to have a place where congregants can gather to worship but also a

daycare where the little ones can stay during the day, eat a good meal, and receive

at least a basic education in simple survival skills. We cannot yet offer a place

for them to stay at night but it will be a great advantage for parents to be able

to leave their children safely with John while they go out to look for day work in

the neighborhood.

John has worked hard on this project, and we are glad to be able to help him to make

it a reality.
