The Five Children
John in Ghana recently helped five children of the same family who came to him in great need, asking for no more than whatever he could give so that they could get something to eat. A simple request but not one we can always fulfill. This time fortunately we were able to give them a bit. No child should be hungry.
About two years ago their mother, Mary, had come to us pregnant and asking for help. Unfortunately this time things had not worked out as well as we had hoped and she lost the baby. There had been complications after the birth and those we were able to provide funds for her to receive treatment. This is one of those times when the person we are helping simply disappears and doesn't come back to ask for more help or even to let us know how they are faring so we had no way of knowing how she was doing or, indeed, if she had even survived. This has been one of those things worrying in the back of the mind and we often wondered if the poor lady had survived, and how her children were doing.
But after the children came asking for help John made contact with Mary and found that she is still alive and doing as well as can be expected. So that is good news. It is sad that they are struggling to eat, but at least everyone is still alive.
So, we are very grateful for that.
