EMERGENCY
We have just received a message from our friend John in Ghana. Ten month old Donald
has been scalded by boiling water. The skin on his head is raw, blistered and
bleeding and he is screaming in pain.
Donald is the child of Favour, an eighteen year old Nigerian girl presently living
in Accra, Ghana. She came to John for help late last year when she was pregnant,
homeless, and broke. We were able to get Favour into a hospital for the delivery of
her baby and we have been doing what we can to help both mother and child since
then. They have had a very hard time of it. Favour has no relatives and no one she
can turn to to help care for the baby, or to show her even the most basic
instruction of what to do as a new mother. Being young, she has made some mistakes
in caring for the child and this has caused problems even on top of their simple
lack of money to survive.
Favour is unable to nurse by Doctors orders, and she and the child have often been forced to go hungry. Donald also has some continuing health problems that badly need to be taken
care of but that has simply not been possible at this time. The little boy has suffered and struggled almost from the day he was born.
We are not yet sure of the extent of the boy's injuries. John has sent photos and
they are ugly and appalling. We sent funds for him to receive medical treatment but
we have yet to receive any further updates.
Any prayers and positive thoughts would be much appreciated.
Note: Donald has received medical treatment and he will be okay. We don't
know yet if there will be any scars from his burns.
