John in Ghana has a 16 year old daughter named Josephine. She lives with her mother
in another city in Ghana and is attending school there.
When John finally got his phone repaired after it had been smashed by the thugs
when he went to check on baby Melbourne he found a string of frantic messages from
the school Josephine was attending. They had been trying to reach him for three
days. Josephine had collapsed at her desk in a classroom and was in the hospital,
vomiting and with constant diarrhea. She had been diagnosed with cholera.
By the time John received the messages Josephine had been treated but they needed
payment for drugs and for blood. We managed to get this to him right away and now
she is on the road to recovery.
When I first knew John, over ten years ago, one of his friends had come down with
cholera and had died within hours. The young man had been in perfect health but he
had been trying to live on nothing but cookies and was malnourished. As a result he
had no resistance when the cholera hit him. John and his friends were all in shock
and he never really did recover from it mentally or emotionally. This is one reason
why John is so concerned with the welfare of others. He has seen how fragile life
is and how easily it is snuffed out.
Fortunately we managed to get the necessary funds to the hospital and Josephine
will be okay.
