One of the things P9 has always tried to do is to help pregnant women when they
come to us in need. Pregnancy is natural and a normal part of life, but it is also
dangerous, both for the mother and for the unborn child. So many things can go
wrong, before and during the process of giving birth. We have always done our best
to make sure that women get the best care possible during this time.
Recently a seventeen-year-old girl named Sylvia came to John in Ghana asking for
help. She was in the latter stages of pregnancy and needed not only prenatal care
but also, the simple basics of life- she was homeless and living on the beach in
Accra.
Sylvia was the girlfriend of one of the dancing group who call themselves the Small
Killers. We have worked with them before and have helped them with their problems
as we have been able. The future father was standing by his girlfriend and but he
has a serious health problem of his own and is limited in what he can do. He has
open sores on his leg that needs attention, but for now he is more concerned with
his girlfriend than with himself.
We have made it possible for Sylvia to receive a basic medical examination and we
will try to help her to receive the care she needs, including making it possible
for her to deliver her baby in a hospital with suitable medical care and
supervision. We will continue to post updates as they become available.
We are hoping for the best for the young mother and for the baby and the father.
