Update on Updates 7/12/25

Apologies for the small number of updates over the past few weeks. We have been
facing many challenges, both in Ghana and elsewhere. Among other things, the rains
in Ghana did considerable damage to the Ghana location and to our primary workers
there, destroying not only property such as clothing, personal documents and food
but also the cellphones that are their only real means of communication with the
outside world. In all the years we have worked with our friends in Ghana we have
never seen this level of destruction on such a wide scale.
Cellphones have become a necessity in order to be linked into the modern world in
Western countries such as the US, but imagine how important they are in countries
like Ghana where there is literally no other way to reach out to others. In America
one becomes a virtual nonperson without a cellphone but at least we can always get
in our cars and drive to the bank or to a store or government office. Imagine what
that is like when you have no car, no public transportation, and no alternative
means of communication. It is more than a mere inconvenience. It cuts off access
not only to friends, family, and helpers but also to bank accounts (mobile money,
in Ghana) and any possible means of help in impossibly difficult situations. And
this is what has happened to many of our friends in Ghana. The rains have damaged
their cellphones, in many cases literally the only possession they have of any real
worth, and has cut them off from every means of survival.
Right now, we are trying to access the damage and find out what the situation is
with all of our friends there. Many of them are in desperate circumstances. At the
present time John hasn't even been able to contact the care center where Anabel is
staying to find out what is happening there. And some of the other children are in
even more precarious circumstances.
Hopefully we will be able to resolve some of this over the coming week.
