Anabel is a little girl in Ghana who was abandoned by her mother when she was three
years old. She is now being cared for in a child care center and this week she
began her second year of schooling. She attended her first classes on Tuesday.
Anabel still has some health issues. She has sores in her mouth and throat,
possibly because of an inadequate diet. She had these problems earlier. We only
recently found that they are still plaguing her. At this stage it is more annoying
than dangerous, but we will try to get this handled. No child should be suffering.
She's also having some problems in school. She needed new school supplies- coloring
books, crayons, pencils, eraser, the basic things a kid needs at school. The school
didn't tell us this ahead of time so right now she isn't participating in class.
We don't want Anabel to feel like a charity case or inferior to the other children
just because she is an orphan. It is upsetting that this situation has come up. We
will try to get it straightened out as soon as possible.
The sad thing is that Anabel is not even in the worst situation the children we are
working to help, but because she has no parent and no one but us to help we try to
make sure that her basic needs are taken care of before some of the others. We will
try to get her problems settled as soon as we can. Please keep Anabel close to
your heart.
