Gofred back to school
John first met Gofred when he found him abandoned on the beach in Accra. He had been
abandoned by his father who was in a nearby country looking for work. John took Gofred in to stay with him until his father returned. His father later took him to stay with family in a distant village.
Since that time Gofred has been living in the village. His father visits him when he can but he has to spend most of his time travelling through Ghana to find work. As we said before, the father recently returned to his village to find Gofred ill with malaria. He had also been expelled from school. He wasn't having a good time at all.
We managed to get funds to them so that the little boy could receive proper medical
treatment. He also needed enough funds to pay for admission back to school and for
schoolbooks so that he could actually study and keep up with the other kids his
age. This we were able to provide.
Gofred is now eight years old and is one of the oldest of the children we are
trying to help on a regular basis. It is extremely important that he receive as
much education as possible so that he will have a better chance to make something
of himself in the world. Obviously, we aren't able to help everyone as much as we
like and we have no way of knowing how long we will be able to help anyone at all.
But we are stretching ourselves as much as we can for Gofred. He is at the age where
he cannot wait to start school as younger children can.
For now, Gofred is well and he is attending school in his little village.
