Holiday Update
Sorry that we have posted so few updates about John and events in Ghana recently.
Things have been unsettled for various reasons, some of them in Ghana and others
here. John has been seriously ill, though he has asked that we not post anything
about his personal challenges and of course we will respect that request. Naturally
John is unable to help others when he has to deal with his own issues. In fact, for
a time it was so bad that John was considering whether he could continue his work to
help others or if he would have to withdraw from it completely.
Likewise, we have had our own challenges here. So unfortunately, the work we have
been doing with John in Ghana has suffered. But things are getting better. John is still unable to travel as freely as he has been travelling and he has been told to put less physical strain on his body overall, but he is doing much better. Likewise, we have managed to resolve some of our problems here and so it seems we will be able to go forward with the work that we have been doing.
The overall plan for now is to finish the Nanny House John has been building. He has
most of the basic work done. His plan is to have separate rooms for both boys and
girls where they can stay and be safe from the streets and much of this has been
done. He still needs to put in water and plumbing and some other things. But it is
moving along.
It is important to have a shelter because so many of the problems the people there
have been facing are the result of homelessness. They simply have no permanent home
where John can provide for them and give them food and the other sorts of things
they need. This is especially true of the little children. Each of them has his or
her own problem but shelter and a place to stay is very much needed.
With the holidays coming we would like to be able to provide a small holiday
gathering for them with food and drink and a chance to have something like a
regular Christmas celebration. Of course, survival must come first and emergencies
have to be dealt with but if we can find the funds, we will try to give them all a
little Christmas party. But that remains to be seen.
At any rate the last few months have had their challenges, but we move forward and
we hope that the coming year will be better for all of us.
