Our friend John works in Ghana to help the desperately poor who come to him with
sudden, life-threatening emergencies such as illness, hunger, or homelessness.
There are many now alive in Ghana who would have died if John hadn't helped them.
That is a literal fact.
But John himself struggles with his own problems and he has very little money of
his own. Early last week John suddenly collapsed and blacked out while out in public. The
next thing he can recall was waking in a hospital. He was suffering from loss of
blood. John has had problems with passing blood for years. This is not the first
time that he has been hospitalized because of it. The doctors told him he would die
without an operation that he did not have the money to pay for.
Fortunately he was given the operation to save his life but he still needed the
money to pay for the stay in the hospital. Hospitals in Africa generally are not
kind to patients who are unable to pay their bills. In fact they usually will not
even admit a patient until he has shown the money needed to pay for his care.
At any rate with some effort and very kind benefactors John was finally able to pay
his bill and today he was released from the hospital. He is now safe in his own
home and he is on the road to recovery.
It has been a very hard week but John made it through. We wish nothing but the best
for him in the future.
