Sunday emergency

12/19/2025

This has been a challenging week for us here at P9. Along with our usual challenges

in other parts of the world, this last Sunday our Treasurer here at P9 headquarters

felt an odd cramping sensation in his chest that quickly developed into an

agonizing pain that had him screaming, gasping, and pawing at the wall. His

companions hastily called 911 but even before they arrived, he was starting to fade

out of consciousness.

He was rushed to the emergency room of the local hospital where they determined

that he was having a heart attack. He was taken immediately to a larger hospital

some distance away where the doctors placed a stent in his heart to keep the blood

flow open.

The next few days were difficult, but he was finally released yesterday (wednesday)

and is now resting at home.

Fortunately, here in the US we are blessed with a solid, if imperfect, medical

system and our Treasurer received the help he needed to save his life. How we will

pay for it is another issue, but nothing like what the poor folks in Ghana have to

go through. Just like Americans, they are subject to every illness and calamity

that humanity must endure, and in many cases, they are unable to obtain the help

that they need when they need it. Even when we managed to help, our resources are

limited and the vast majority we must turn away. This is a sad fact of life and it

is something we struggle with constantly.

We are very grateful that our Treasurer survived, and this has made us more

determined to be there for others as well.

May Christmas and the holiday season be with you all.
