Anabel's schooling
It hasn't been easy keeping up with events in Ghana. The past three weeks have gone
into trying to put things back together after our heart attack here in P9
headquarters and inevitably that has caused us to let everything else slide.
Survival comes first. That may not be a good thing, but it's inevitable in life.
Also, John in Ghana has been seriously ill himself. Generally, we have agreed among
ourselves not to talk too much of our own problems in these updates so that P9 can
be focused on the people we are trying to help but inevitably when we have personal
problems they are going to affect what we can do for others. It's hard to help
others when you're flat on your back sick in bed. And this has been the basic
situation both here and with John. We just haven't been free to help anyone else.
John has had digestive problems for most of his life. Certainly, as long as he's
been working with us here at P9. The doctors have told him he needs another,
serious operation for his hernia and an inflamed appendix. He is in considerable
pain and can't even stand straight but the operation isn't scheduled for another
month for insurance reasons. So, it looks like we will have that problem for awhile
yet.
He has heard a bit from the others, though it's hard for him to keep in touch with
them under the circumstances.
The most important problem is that Anabel's monthly fees are due again and she is
in danger of once again getting expelled from school. This kind of on again off
again attempt at an education is doing her no good at all but right now the funds
just are not there to take care of her.
We have lost track of little Donald. John is going to try to track him down but,
again, he is limited in what he can do until he is feeling better. Donald is,
perhaps, the most vulnerable of our children and he has certainly had a hard time
so far in his short life. As far as we know he is with his father's family but they
took him to a village at some distance from Accra and we haven't been able to keep
in touch with the people who have him.
John has also mentioned that Kumasi is in great need just now, but he hasn't given
any details. He is afraid to worry us too much after the heart attack problems.
We will try to fill in some of the blanks as we learn more. It is a hard time for
our little P9 community right now.
