A very serious situation is developing in Ghana.
Belinda is a young lady who came with her husband to John in Accra, the capitol of
Ghana, asking for his help to get hospital care during her pregnancy. John arranged
for her to receive an examination by a physician who suggested that Belinda go to
stay with her mother in a village outside of Accra so that the mother could assist
in the delivery and in the care of both mother and child. This she did and shortly
afterward the baby was born in her mother's home.
Belinda suffered some complications and was in the hospital briefly but she and the
baby were soon released. The family is very poor but at least the baby was born
safely and they were hoping that the father, Benjamin, could come that weekend to
see his new son.
Unfortunately things have taken a dark turn. The baby has been struggling to
breathe and the doctors have said that he has a heart problem that requires
surgery. Health insurance will cover some of it but Belinda and Benjamin are still
required to pay a basic amount for the doctors to perform the necessary procedure.
It took some time to transfer the funds to John so that he could pass it on to the
parents and in the meantime the poor baby has been very ill, crying constantly and
unable to breathe. Finally today the child was taken in to the hospital to have his
operation. This is all we know at this time.
A very worrying time. Hopefully the baby will be okay.
We will update as soon as we have more.
