It has been a slow time for John in Ghana and for the others he has been helping
there.
Since his surgery he has been obeying the doctor's instructions to rest and
not exert himself any more than absolutely necessary. The medicines he has been
taking make him drowsy, causing him to sleep most of the time. His diet has been
limited to liquids and if he isn't careful they make him sick to his stomach. So he
has been very restricted in what he is able to do.
Obviously it isn't possible for John to do much to help others when he is
struggling himself but in the past week he has managed to get funds to Favour, the
mother of little Donald, so that they can pay their back rent and get back in the
room where they have been staying. They have been forced to sleep on the beach in
Accra, which is not safe for a young woman or a small child. For now this has been
resolved, though they still need help with food.
The matron of the childcare center where five year old Anabel has been staying has
passed on to John that the monthly fees for her upkeep are due. Fortunately John
can transfer this directly from his phone. We have no new updates on how she is
doing but presumably John would have been informed if there were problems.
Belinda, the new mother who is staying with her baby with her own mother in a
village some distance from Accra, has sent to John saying that she has no money to
buy food for herself or the baby. Right now we aren't yet been able to help but
hopefully we can do something for them as soon as John is feeling a bit better.
And finally little Melbourne, whose mother has been neglecting him while his father
is in prison, continues to be of concern. This situation has been going on for some
time now but due to John's health emergencies and the needs of the other children
we haven't been able to check on his welfare, let alone help him. Hopefully this month John will finally be able to go and see how the little boy is doing. It is not good to neglect a small child who is having a hard time and we are determined to get help to him as soon as possible.
The good news is that John is feeling better, though slowly. He is the foundation
of all of the work we have been doing there and without him everyone will suffer.
We wish him the best in this difficult time.
